Opened on 8 December, DUKES London unveiled The Delany Drawing Room, a thoughtfully conceived whisky lounge that draws inspiration from the botanical collages of 18th-century artist Mary Delany, whose pioneering paper mosaics captured the delicate intricacy of nature with scientific precision and artistic flair. Delany’s own historical ties to St James’s, where she lived and worked, lends a gentle authenticity to the project. Brought to life by Russell Sage Studio, the space reinterprets Delany’s spirit of observation and storytelling, transforming her influence into a modern, atmospheric retreat in the heart of St James’s.
Designed as a contemporary sanctuary, The Delany Drawing Room layers textiles, natural materials and botanical motifs to create a setting that feels both intimate and expressive. The walls themselves become narrative pieces with subtle nods to Delany’s botanical works and to the undiscovered corners of London, reflecting the hidden gardens, private green squares and quiet historic enclaves that surround the hotel. Soft lighting and tactile finishes encourage guests to linger, while curated artworks and detailing invite closer inspection, much like Delany’s own meticulous creations.
