On  11th March 2026, under the sparkling crystal chandeliers and gilded palm trees in the magnificent State Rooms of Spencer House,  the Mayfair and  St.James’s Association celebrated the 75th anniversary of it’s establishment.

Invited by the Directors of the Association,  members and their guests were generously hosted by Spencer House to a glamorous drinks reception.

Matthew Hennessy-Gibbs,  Chairman,  gave an inspiring introductory speech and, after thanking Spencer House for their generosity in hosting our special event,  outlined a history of the splendid  18th century aristocratic palace where we were gathered. He then focused on the aims and objectives of the Mayfair and St.James’s Association,  encouraging and welcoming new members to join.

Matthew introduced Janine Leigh-Wood,  Managing Director of Spencer  House,  who described the exclusive, in-house hospitality business they offer within the remarkable historic interiors of this important private palace.

Spencer House seamlessly weaves the past into the present. The centre of social,  political and cultural life, when built in the 18th century for the first Earl Spencer,  it has not only endured but thrived into the 21st  century,  still hosting receptions and providing an elegant hub, in the heart of St.James’s,  for conversation,  celebration and sheer enjoyment.

This was certainly the case as, during our reception, our members and guests were engaged in forging valuable alliances and exchanging contacts.

Head Chef Gareth Williamson and his brigade produced delicious canapés whilst copious quantities of wine from the Spencer House cellar flowed throughout the evening.

Dazzled by the ravishing interiors, we were delighted to be able to hold our  75th anniversary celebration at Spencer House and were fortunate to be offered fascinating tours of the highly important art collection, all on display in the  State Rooms.

A memorable and enjoyable anniversary evening in the heart of  St.James’s.
